"some people come into our lives and quickly go..... some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are changed forever."
This page is dedicated to those who left footprints....
Yvonne Downes
Yvonne Downs, went to be with our Lord on the 11th. March a very small service at the Crematorium due to the Coronavirus pandemic but it is hoped to hold a celebration of her life when things get back to normal. Many older members will remember her when she led Campaigners at the old St. Peter’s.
Below is a short note of how important she was in bringing youth work to St.Peter’s.
She will be sadly... missed by all who knew her and our condolences go out to her family and friends.
Yvonne Downs
Yvonne joined Campaigners as a teenager during the 2nd World War becoming a Girl Craftsmen at St Andrew’s Edgware.
One of her earliest memories was marching with the Campaigner band from St. Andrew’s in 1959 for the Dedication Service on the site of the new St. Peter’s Church. (Aside:= Mrs. Downs told me she was leading the band beating a base drum and she was told off for beating it too quickly and making the rest march too fast.)
In the sixties Yvonne started Campaigners on the newly built Stonegrove and Spur Road Estate in the new Community Centre which later moved to St. Peter’s Hall (Although it was just a wooden shed at the time) when it was built. Yvonne encouraged me (Dave Franklin) and then Pete Legate to become Chiefs.
In the 1990’s she moved across London to Harold Wood.
During her time at St. Peter’s she encouraged many to work for their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Over the years 20 girls and 5 boys achieved the Bronze Award 6 girls and 5 boys achieved the Silver Award and 6 girls achieved Gold and went to Buckingham Palace to receive their awards from Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. In the 1990's she moved across London to Harold Wood she carried on helping with the Campaigner at St. Peter’s there finally retiring when she was 80.

Margaret Starns
It is with much sadness that I announce that Margaret Starns went to be with our Lord just before Christmas in December 2018
Margaret died peacefully in her sleep.
Margaret was a founder member of St. Peter's even before the building was built in the early sixties.
Margaret served as church warden for many years and was in charge of Sunday School since day one of the old St. Peter’s. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Margaret took place at St. Margaret's Church on Monday 21st. January 2019

Peter Legate
It is with much sadness that the much loved Pete Legate went to be with our Lord today, (17th. February 2017) he is missed by all at St. Peter’s. Pete was actively involved in youth work at Stonegrove for over 30 years. From his early days with Campaigners, to the St. Peter’s Youth Club, Sunday School, PYG, Solutions Youth Club, right up to the present Stonegrove Estates Youth Project (SEYP). Today he is still involved with the St. Peter’s Sunday School, Safeguarding Officer and ran the Multimedia for the church. Pete was officially recognised for all the work he did on behalf of the young people in the Stonegrove area and at St. Peter’s and was awarded at a Civic Ceremony with a framed velum by Mayor Cllr. Hugh Rayner.
Till we meet again on that great day God bless you Pete.
At Pete’s funeral on Monday 27th. March many wore ‘Chelsea’ Pete’s signature colours of blue and white (Chelsea F.C. Colours)

maureen o'callaghan
Maureen O’Callaghan went to be with our Lord on 21st. December 2016 after a short illness in Barnet Hospital.
Maureen was a close friend and brought comfort to many.
Maureen was a powerful prayer warrior and would pray for anyone at the drop of a hat even on the streets or over the phone, she was an example to us all of Christianity in action and will be missed by all at St. Peter’s. But we know that she is with our Lord now and free from pain and fear and resting in His arms of love. Thank you, Maureen, for all the lives you have touched. So, goodbye for now Maureen but we know we will all meet again.

Rita who is now reunited with her husband Canon were founding members of St. Peter’s when they transferred from St. Margaret’s in the early 1960’s to the newly built St. Peter’s on the new Stonegrove Estate.
